What ages and experience levels are your camps and clinics designed for?

Our Dance Party AZ Camps and Friday FUN Clinics are designed primarily for children ages 5–12 and welcome dancers of beginner to intermediate experience levels. Whether your child is taking their very first dance class or already loves to move, our programs are designed to build confidence, creativity, friendships, and self-expression through dance in a positive, encouraging environment.

Are boys welcome?

Absolutely! Boys are always welcome to join our camps and clinics. Since our programs are dance-focused, we ask that participants have an interest in dancing and participating in the activities. While our camps offer a more relaxed, childcare-friendly schedule, the heart of every event is movement, learning, and having fun through dance. If there's interest in an all-boys dance class or clinic, we'd be happy to help! Gather a small group of friends, and we can schedule a private group lesson tailored just for them.

What if my dancer is older or more advanced?

Our camps and clinics are intentionally designed for beginning to intermediate dancers, so everyone can feel successful while learning new skills. For dancers who are already training at an advanced level—or who are preparing for high school pom, cheer, auditions, or competitive dance goals—we recommend scheduling a private lesson evaluation or booking a small group lesson. This allows us to personalize instruction and focus on advanced skills such as turns, leaps, flexibility, performance quality, and tryout preparation.

What if my older child is just starting dance?

You're in the right place! Older beginners are absolutely welcome, and Dance Party AZ is a fun, supportive place to start. Our goal is to help every dancer feel comfortable, encouraged, and excited to learn—regardless of age or previous experience. Everyone starts somewhere, and we're here to help each dancer grow at their own pace.

What is the difference between a clinic and a camp?

The biggest difference is the length of the event! Friday FUN Clinics are 2-hour sessions packed with dancing, games, skill-building, and fun. Dancers should bring a large water bottle and one healthy snack. Dance Camps are 5-hour experiences that allow for even more dancing, activities, crafts, games, and themed fun. Campers should bring a large water bottle, a healthy snack, and a nut-free lunch (please, no peanut products). Whether your child joins us for a clinic or a camp, they'll enjoy a positive, confidence-building experience while making new friends and learning exciting new skills!

Are parents allowed to stay and watch?

Our clinics and camps are designed as drop-off experiences, allowing dancers to build confidence, independence, and focus while participating in class. At the end of every clinic and camp, families are invited inside to enjoy a special showcase of what the dancers have learned! We recommend arriving 10–15 minutes before the scheduled end time so you don't miss their performance.

What should my dancer wear?

We encourage dancers to dress for success! Wearing comfortable, athletic clothing that allows for movement helps dancers feel confident and ready to participate. Great options include dancewear or activewear, leggings, shorts, or athletic pants, a fitted T-shirt or tank, hair secured away from the face, and comfortable dance shoes or clean athletic shoes.

Why should hair be pulled back?

Hair should be secured in a ponytail, braid, bun, or other style that keeps it out of the dancer's face. This helps dancers stay focused during class, learn proper spotting and turning technique, practice safely, and feel polished and performance-ready.

What shoes should my dancer wear?

Accepted Answer

Proper footwear makes a big difference in both safety and skill development. Depending on the class, dancers may wear ballet slippers, jazz shoes, half shoes (turners), clean athletic shoes, or bare feet for acro activities. For dancers who attend clinics regularly or are interested in improving turns and technical skills, we highly recommend investing in a pair of turners (half shoes). Please label all of your dancer's belongings — shoes, water bottles, bags, and clothing — with their name so we can return any lost items to you!

Does my child need dance experience?

Not at all! Our clinics welcome dancers of all experience levels. Whether your child is trying dance for the first time or already takes weekly classes, every dancer is encouraged, challenged, and celebrated. Activities are adapted so beginners feel successful while experienced dancers continue building new skills.

What should my dancer bring?

Please send your dancer with: a large water bottle, healthy snack for clinic +/or lunch for Camps, dance shoes (turners/half shoe, ballet, or jazz shoes — if bare feet, bring socks to turn), and a positive attitude and lots of energy!

What snacks are allowed?

Accepted Answer

We ask families to pack healthy, mess-free snacks whenever snacks are needed. Great options include fresh fruit, applesauce pouches, cheese sticks, crackers, granola bars, pretzels, and veggies. Please send water only as the primary beverage. If your child has food allergies, please let us know in advance.

What will my child learn?

Every Dance Party AZ clinic combines fun with skill-building. Depending on the event, dancers may explore stretching and flexibility, acro fundamentals, pom and cheer motions, ballet and jazz technique including jumps leaps and turns, choreography, musicality, dance games and following directions, confidence-building activities, team work, and performance skills. Each DPAZ event is designed so dancers leave feeling proud of what they've accomplished.
